BURLINGTON, N.C. -- An 8-year-old boy flown to Duke Hospital in Durham after being hit by a moving van Wednesday should be out of the hospital after just one night according to his mother.

The boy and his mother were moving into a home in the 900 block of Graham Street around 12:30 p.m. when the child was struck.

The Burlington Police Department said the mother’s boyfriend was behind the wheel of the truck as it was reversing into the backyard from the driveway through a gate in the fence.

According to the mother, she told the boy to get out of the way but he didn’t move fast enough to avoid the impact.

Police said the boy was hit by the cargo end of the truck and then hit the ground. The boy’s mother was able to pull him out of the way before he was run over by the vehicle.

She told FOX8 he had just bumps and bruises from the impact and would likely be released from the hospital on Thursday.

Police said they will not pursue any charges against the man driving the van because the collision was an accident.
