CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is picketing his parking fines by paying in pennies.

WCNC reported that Stephen Coyle paid his $110 fine entirely in pennies after finding out that the school only keeps about 20 percent of the fines.

Coyle said that 80 percent of the fines go to other schools. So he got 11,000 pennies to give to the school.

Coyle sat and watched as the workers at the school counted the pennies, which reportedly took more than three hours.
