WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A Winston-Salem mother says a gunman -- responsible for two separate break-ins and shootings -- almost shot several children Tuesday morning.
“He was intending to kill, and nobody could stop him, nobody could say [anything] to him, he had no remorse for [anything],” said that mother, Andrea Kimbrough, who lives on Betty Drive in Winston-Salem.
Kimbrough says shortly after 1 a.m., a man kicked in her front door and pointed a gun at three children who had been asleep on the couch. She says he then pointed the gun at her, then back at the children, before exiting the home.
“You see it happen every day, but you never -- until it happens to you -- you can’t feel it,” Kimbrough said.
Kimbrough says the man then fired about nine shots in the direction of her home. One of the bullets hit the home and traveled through the kitchen before hitting her refrigerator.
“The babies; the bullets passed right over them -- right over their heads,” Kimbrough said. “My little brother was hiding under the kitchen table. The bullet passed right under his head.”
The gunman then left the scene before police arrived.
“In the blink of an eye I had a whole crime scene in the front of my house,” Kimbrough said. “A ton of blue lights -- cones everywhere -- yellow cones for the bullet casings.”
Winston-Salem police say the same man is responsible for a second shooting, which happened shortly before the one on Betty Drive.
The other shooting happened just blocks away on Lambeth Street. Police say the man forced entry into that home and discharged a weapon.
The man has not yet been located by police.
“They need to find him, because he is a menace to society if he would do something like this,” Kimbrough said.
Police say they are pursuing leads and the investigation is continuing.
Nobody was hurt by any of the shots.
