PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. — A teenager was killed Sunday when he fell more than 50 feet off a waterfall in South Carolina, WYFF reported.

Authorities responded to Mill Creek Falls in Table Rock State Park at about 3:45 p.m. after a report of a fallen hiker.

The girl he was hiking with said the victim, 16-year-old Jonathan Michael McKenzie of Simpsonville, S.C., was attempting to refill water bottles when he lost his footing and fell more than 50 feet off of a waterfall about three miles from the trailhead in the park.

Emergency workers found him and took him back down the mountain where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office has interviewed the witness and the investigation is still ongoing. There are no signs of foul play at this time.
