Local recipients of health care subsidies pleased with Supreme Court’s ruling
GERMANTON, N.C. — For Wayne Childress, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Thursday to uphold subsidies under the Affordable Care Act was a good thing.
“With the subsidy, I can afford my health insurance for myself and my two sons,” Childress said.
Childress, 43, who lives in Germanton, was among several people who shared their stories with the Winston-Salem Journal of how the court’s ruling will affect their lives.
Childress, who is divorced, installs satellite television and Internet connections in Winston-Salem as a subcontractor for the Dish Network LLC, he said. Without the federal subsidy, health insurance for him and his two sons would cost about a $1,000 month, which he couldn’t afford.
