Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem closed after vehicle splits utility pole in half

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A vehicle hit a utility pole early Thursday morning  in Winston-Salem.

The single-vehicle wreck happened at 1210 S. Hawthorne Road.

The utility pole snapped into two separate pieces, causing power lines to hang low across Hawthorne Road.

Both directions of Hawthorne Road are shut down just east of Magnolia Street and west of Collinwood Street.

Duke Power and the City of Winston-Salem Streets personnel are on the scene evaluating the situation to determine the most timely fix.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured during the accident.

Alcohol was not a factor in this wreck.

The investigation is in the early stages.
