NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A North Charleston police officer has been fired over a photo he posted to Facebook of himself wearing Confederate flag boxer shorts.

According to WCIV,┬áPolice Chief Eddie Driggers issued a termination letter to Sgt. Shannon Dildine, saying the photo undermines the officer’s “ability to improve trust and instill confidence when working with our citizens.”

The photo spread across the Internet Thursday after being posted a few days ago.

Dildine has 10 days to appeal the decision.

Public opinion has shifted significantly in recent days in relation to the display of the Confederate flag.
