GREENSBORO, N.C. — Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a large house fire in Greensboro Thursday morning.

The call about a fire on Gretchen Lane came in around 5:55 a.m.

Seven tanker trucks responded to the scene.

A mom, her son and the family dog all made it out of the home safely.

They said two people on the way to work saw the flames and started banging on the windows of each unit to wake people up.

The building where the fire started has four separate units.

Firefighters said it looks like the fire started in the attic of one unit and spread from there.

Each of the units has a firewall between them, but the fire actually spread to another unit displacing a second family.

Arcadia Street remains closed as investigators try to determine the cause of the fire.
