CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Archdale girl who was attacked by a shark at Oak Island earlier this month is out of surgery and her family says “all went well.”

Kiersten Yow, 12, was attacked by a shark on June 14 and lost a portion of her left arm below the elbow and suffered injuries to her left leg.

Yow was initially taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and later transferred to N.C. Children’s Hospital at UNC.

The family posted an update on the Kiersten Yow Support Facebook page Wednesday evening, saying that if all heals well, this will be the last surgery on her leg.

Kiersten will need one more surgery for her arm and it is currently planned for Monday, the family said.
