ARCHDALE, N.C. — A Facebook page has been set up in honor of the 12-year-old Archdale girl who is recovering from a recent shark attack.

The “Kiersten Yow Support” Facebook page currently has more than 3,500 “likes” and several photos of her with words of support.

The page was set up so Yow’s family could share her updates to friends and family and provide encouragement, according to the page.

Yow was one of two people attacked by a shark at a beach in Oak Island last Sunday.

She lost a portion of her left arm below the elbow and suffered injuries to her left leg.

Yow was initially taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and later transferred to N.C. Children’s Hospital at UNC.

Yow’s family has said she has a long road to recovery that will include surgeries and rehabilitation, but doctors expect that she will keep her leg.

Hunter Treschel, a 16-year-old boy from Colorado Springs, Colo., was attacked about 90 minutes after Yow was and had his arm amputated beneath the shoulder.

Both incidents happened while they were standing in waist-deep water.
