Severe thunderstorm watch issued throughout the Piedmont expires

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Moore, Alamance, Stanly, Randolph, Chatham, Forsyth, Montgomery, Caswell, Guilford, Stokes, Davidson and Rockingham counties has expired.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Randolph, Guilford and Davidson counties, but expired at 6:45 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds, destructive hail, deadly lightning and heavy rain.

For protection, people should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a home or business. Heavy rains flood roads quickly, so people should avoid driving in areas where water covers the road.
