Man accused of bank robbery arrested in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is in custody in connection with a Monday morning bank robbery in Winston-Salem.

George Tyson Thompson Jr., 58, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

At 11:51 a.m., police were dispatched to the Truliant Federal Credit Union on North Liberty Street in reference to a reported robbery.

Police were told a man entered the business and threatened employees with a knife while demanding money.

The suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

An officer was responding to the bank when he observed Thompson in the 100 block of East Ninth Street. Thompson was taken into custody without incident.

Thompson was placed in the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 2.
