Alamance woman says her dog was taken and adopted in Guilford County
MEBANE, N.C. — Sara “Jacqueline” Miyano is used to having a bundle of white and brown fur sleeping next to her at night. Chiwi, a 1-year-old Shih Tzu-schnauzer mix, also would trot around the house with a small stuffed dog of his own in his mouth, or run and catch a rubber ball with her two boys, ages 3 and 5.
“I know it will sound crazy. … I feel like he was one of my children,” Miyano said.
Chiwi went missing from his home in Mebane on May 27, and Miyano said her dog was taken to another county and adopted before she was aware of what was happening.
Miyano, 25, said she let Chiwi out in her gated yard to go to the bathroom as usual that morning. She opened the door to let him back in after less than 10 minutes and discovered he was gone.
Miyano lives on a dead-end street, not far from railroad tracks and Interstate 40. There are a few houses nearby, a handful of businesses and lots of woods.
