Six people hospitalized after Winston-Salem apartment fire; 20 adults, 9 children displaced

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Fire Department responded to an early morning apartment fire that sent six people to the hospital on Sunday.

Fire officials said that around 12:20 a.m., firefighters responded to 104 Weatherwood Court where they found a two-story brick apartment with four units on fire.

Firefighters battled heavy flames and smoke for over an hour before the fire was brought under control, authorities said.

Four units were completely ruined and several others were damaged. The property damage is estimated to be $637,000.

The fire sent four residents, a firefighter and a Winston-Salem police officer to local hospitals, said WSFD.

Twenty adults and nine children were displaced by the fire. The displaced are being helped by the American Red Cross and Forsyth County Emergency Management, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The investigation is on-going.
