Some Guilford County schools to drop uniforms

Starting this fall, some Guilford County students won’t have to worry about stocking up on khaki pants or collared shirts for their school’s required uniforms.

That doesn’t mean school uniforms are gone. Many parents still want them.

At least seven schools will no longer require standard mode of dress, or SMOD, according to an informal poll of principals by the News & Record.

Principals at an additional 15 schools said a majority of their parents voted to continue requiring uniforms, in some cases with more relaxed terms.
