KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Police say an 18-year-old man stole a truck sitting outside a Kangaroo Express, then hit two people on a motorcycle during his getaway.

The suspect, Julian Caretti of Walkertown, is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond. Police say he’s facing a number of charges including hit-and-run, eluding police and theft.

At 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, police say a customer at the Kangaroo Express parked his truck and went inside. When he came out, his truck wasn’t there and he called 911.

Police say Caretti took the truck and led police on a chase starting on West Mountain Street and ending on East Mountain Street.

During this chase, Caretti accelerated and crossed over into the center turn lane, striking a Harley Davidson motorcycle with two occupants, according to authorities.

Police said he was stopped by officers deploying stop sticks to deflate the tires of the stolen truck. Police say both the truck and motorcycle are ruined.

The occupants of the motorcycle, Theron Jonathan Willis and Christa Leann Stum, both of Kernersville, were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries, according to police. They are expected to be okay.

The Kernersville Police Department said that the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending against Caretti.
