GREENVILLE, N.C. — A local TV news crew covering a story about a safe that was stolen from a business ended up finding it in the woods.

A WITN reporter and photographer were on the scene of a “hole-in-the-wall” burglary in Greenville when they found the safe near the scene.

The crime happened earlier this week at a furniture business. The intruder allegedly broke inside, took the safe and used a hand truck to cart it away.

Empty cash drawers and scattered papers were on the ground near where the safe was found, according to the TV station.

The safe had been pried open and a laptop computer and cash was removed, according to the TV station. Authorities are still looking for whoever is responsible.
