Guilford County Schools ‘deeply disappointed’ in former math teacher charged with sex offense
MEBANE, N.C. – Guilford County Schools have released a statement about a former Eastern Guilford High School teacher accused of a sexual offence with a student.
“We are deeply disappointed by this situation and we are very concerned for everyone involved, particularly the victim and the victim’s family,” the statement read.
“We have a great team of educators and staff at Eastern High, and they are doing everything they can to support our students and parents during this difficult time.”
Dustin Graham Branch, 32, of Mebane, is charged with one count of sex offense with a student and one count of criminal use of trademark.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office notified the Mebane police of an alleged incident involving the suspect on May 29.
Branch is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl at his home. The alleged victim is now 18.
The suspect was arrested Friday and placed in the Orange County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond. He has court planned for June 8.
Police said Branch is a former math teacher at Eastern Guilford High School. The school system said he had been there for nearly two years.
A school spokesperson said he was a teacher at the time of the alleged incident, but resigned on Thursday, one day before his arrest.
Guilford County Schools said they conduct both national and statewide background checks on teachers.
