Piedmont welcomes first-ever Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Piedmont became part of history on Wednesday when it welcomed the first-ever Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America.

Three simultaneous routes will pass through 50 states before meeting in California ahead of the World Games July 25.

More than 20,000 participants throughout the nation will carry the torch to help spread awareness, acceptance and hope.

Teams of torchbearers will carry Flame of Hope through Greensboro and Winston-Salem on Thursday before heading to Charlotte.
