MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — The remains of a man missing for more than 20 years were discovered in a submerged vehicle in a Kansas lake.

According to WDAF, crews pulled a vehicle from Hillsdale Lake on Thursday evening and found the remains of Fremont O’Berg in a 1981 Chevrolet Citation.

O’Berg was reported missing in 1992.

Police said O’Berg was 57 years old when he went missing. Police searched areas around Miami County, including Hillsdale Lake, immediately after O’Berg was reported missing in 1992, but they never had any leads.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday in a press release that the submerged vehicle was located by a person who was fishing. The individual was using underwater sonar to locate fish when they located the vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle was located approximately 40 yards from the shoreline.

The case is still under investigation.
