Lockdown lifted at Douglass Elementary in Eden

EDEN, N.C. — Douglass Elementary was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to police activity in the area, Rockingham County school officials said.

According to Rockingham County Emergency Medical Services, there was a shooting nearby on Prince Street at about 1:15 p.m. EMS transported one person to Moses Cone Hospital.

At 2:25 p.m., Rockingham County Schools said Eden police gave an “all clear” and the lockdown was lifted.

All students and staff are safe.

No arrests have been made in the shooting. The extent of the victim’s injuries is not clear.
