CONCORD, N.C. — A North Carolina restaurant is under fire after one of their servers claims she was punished for pumping breast milk during her shift.
WBTV reported that Brennan Atwell asked Union Street Bistro in Concord for a place to pump at the end of her shift.
Atwell said the restaurant first offered her a “dingy bathroom in the basement.” She said she refused and they sent her to an office without a door, where male co-workers could oversee what she was doing.
WBTV reported that “Employers are required to provide a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public,” according to federal law.
Atwell said since the incident, she hasn’t been given a shift in more than three weeks. She said she recently requested to work and it was denied.
The restaurant owners said they have not terminated Atwell or taken her off the schedule, but Atwell said she does not feel welcome.
