Elon University student crashes car into animal hospital

ELON, N.C. — An Elon University student was arrested early Wednesday morning after crashing her car into Elon Animal Hospital, the Elon Local News reported.

Alexandra Swallow, 22, of Portland, Maine, was charged with DWI and damage to real property after crashing into the hospital on South Williamson Avenue.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m.

Swallow lost control of the car and careened across the animal hospital’s parking lot and stopped when she crashed into the building.

She then fled the scene, the Elon Local News reported. When police arrived, they were able to locate Swallow standing by a patrol car.

Swallow had a blood alcohol content of .190. She was travelling 50 mph in a 35-mph zone, officials said.
