Winston-Salem, N.C. -- City council approved land purchase for a District 3 police substation near South Stratford Road.

The 1.5-acre lot near Winterhaven Lane is worth $650,000.

The development of three police substations is a city council mandate from back in September 2013.

District 1 will be built on a lot on North Point Boulevard and District 2 will be located on Waughtown Street.

Captain Doug Nance of District 3 said the substation will allow officers to save time when responding to calls and build relationships with the neighborhood they serve.

"Relationships are much better and improved when we do know one another," Nance said. "Citizens and the community itself are a lot more likely to speak with us provide us information. A lof of times they are often skeptical in trusting us and providing us with that information."
