Woman airlifted after SUV overturns on I-85

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- A woman was airlifted to the hospital after an SUV overturned on Interstate 85 south near Thomasville.

Elizabeth Morales, 31, was hospitalized after her 1997 Ford Explorer rolled over near mile marker 101 shortly before noon Thursday.

The vehicle blew a tire out, ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned, according to an authority. There are no other obvious vehicles involved.

A 4-year-old girl was riding in the SUV as a passenger and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with minor injuries. The driver was airlifted there with serious injuries.

The road had been closed two miles south of Exit 102 at Lake Road.
