Greensboro church puts recreation on a different level

GREENSBORO — The rooftop basketball court with a digital scoreboard towers over the city.

Over in a corner is an octagon-shaped area for a new game called gaga ball, which is similar to dodge ball.

When the landlocked West Market Street United Methodist Church in downtown looked to expand, it had no place to go but up — five stories up.

A recreational facility now sits on the roof of the church campus and much of the 185-year-old congregation — and the public — will get its first view this Sunday.
