BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C. – A bottlenose dolphin and the remains of a beaked whale were found washed ashore a North Carolina beach earlier this week.

WECT reported that the dolphin and the body of the whale were found Monday on South Beach at Bald Head Island. The dolphin did not survive.

The whale was later buried at the beach. Authorities are trying to determine a cause of death, according to WECT.

Beaked whales are said to be a rare sight for this area. The dolphin was described as a baby.
