8 geese caught in Greensboro tar spill back in wild
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Eight of the 12 geese sent to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue after being found covered in a tar-like substance in a stormwater retention pond in Greensboro have been released into the wild.
The other four will likely be released in about two weeks.
The 12 adult Canada geese were found April 15 in the pond near Bridford Parkway soaked in a dark, greasy substance that had been illegally dumped in a nearby storm drain.
The cleanup has since been turned over to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
It’s still unknown who is responsible — or why it was done.
