Suspect sought in Asheboro bank robbery

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Police are searching for a suspect in connection with a bank robbery on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the Bank of North Carolina, located at 175 N. Fayetteville St., shortly after 10 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery in progress.

Upon arrival, police determined the suspect had already fled the scene.

It was also determined that the suspect had stated that he had an explosive device upon entering the bank and had left it behind. The bank was then evacuated and after a brief investigation, it was determined that the explosive device was not real.

Police believe the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds. A surveillance photo of the suspect was released by police Wednesday afternoon.
