WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Even though it's a new store, the Mast General Store in downtown Winston-Salem has an old, country store vibe.

Downtown Winston-Salem has a lot of restaurants, bars and a few boutiques, but this store will give the shopping scene a whole new dimension.

Mast General carries clothes, trinkets, toys, foods such as jams and jellies and, of course, their incredible candy collection. The store carries more than 500 different candies.

The headquarters and original Mast General Store is in Valle Crucis, but the one in Winston-Salem is the company’s 10th.

The store opens at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police are blocking off Trade Street between Fifth and Sixth streets until 10:30 this morning for the grand opening.

The store is part of an overhaul of an entire historic building in downtown Winston-Salem.
