GREENSBORO, N.C. — Firefighters responded to a construction equipment fire on Drawbridge Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

After firefighters responded a “Mayday” was called. Watch Operations confirmed the call was real and not a drill.

According to police, the firefighter who prompted the Mayday call fell in a hole. Police say he was freed and is uninjured.

A crane caught fire at the construction site. The fire, which is now out, had briefly closed Drawbridge Parkway between Battleground Avenue and Wildflower Drive. Drivers were asked to avoid the area. All lanes are now open.
