Rockingham officials vote to install ‘In God We Trust’ in Governmental Center

WENTWORTH, N.C. — “In God We Trust” is coming to the lobby of the Rockingham County Governmental Center.

The unanimous decision to support installing the nation’s motto came quicker for the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners on Monday night than a decision to spend $15,000 for the sheriff’s office to purchase body cameras.

“Here we are in tough financial shape and for us to pull money out of the fund balance at this point of time is not wise,” Commissioner Keith Mabe argued.

Mabe said he supported the deputies wearing the cameras, but he wanted them funded through grants — especially since other departments were asked to cut their budgets.
