ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Randolph County planning board is saying no to a proposed skeet and bird shooting facility southwest of Asheboro.

The owners of the Uwharrie Golf Club had requested a change in zoning to allow them to convert the golf course to a shooting range.

Facing strong opposition from neighbors who felt the change would have a negative impact on their community planners voted 7-0 against the change.

The Randolph County Commissioners will have the final say in the matter.
