MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Tick season has arrived in North Carolina, running from spring through fall, according to WNCN.
Ticks are small arachnids in the order Parasitiformes. They live outdoors in grass, trees, shrubs, and leaf piles, according to Healthline.com.
Ticks are vectors of a number of diseases, including Lyme disease, Q fever, Colorado tick fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and others.
To avoid ticks, it is recommended to use bug spray, wear protective clothing and check yourself thoroughly after going inside. Pets can also bring ticks inside.
