WILMINGTON, N.C. — A child allegedly stabbed a classmate with a needle on the playground of College Park Elementary in Wilmington on Wednesday, according to WECT.

Lt. Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office told WECT the student found the needle on the playground.

The mother of the 6-year-old who was stabbed said her son told teachers his arm was hurting Thursday.

That’s when he told the teacher another student stabbed him in the arm on the playground the previous day.

The first grader was rushed to the emergency room for blood tests.

Now, the mother is raising questions about the school system’s policies.

Officials told the mother the playground was checked Wednesday morning, but she wants to make sure more stringent policies are in place to prevent similar incidents from happening.

The mother is not planning to press charges.

Officials still have not found the needle, according to WECT.
