WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- One suspect is in custody after a police chase in Winston-Salem on Thursday evening.

Police said the chase involving an orange SUV ended near the Northwest Boulevard exit on U.S. 52.

The chase started on in the 300 block of Akron Drive after a call came in at 4:52 p.m. about a man assaulting and holding a woman against her will.

When officers arrived on the scene they saw an orange-colored Ford sport utility vehicle fleeing the area.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver would not stop.

The chase ended on U.S. 52 southbound near the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive exit.

The suspect ran from the vehicle and was eventually taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim.
