CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina bar has apologized after a meme that some people are calling offensive was posted to their social media page.

WBTV reported that Bar Charlotte faced a backlash earlier this week after a former employee posted the image on social media.

The meme shows Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka saying “You’re being treated poorly by police? Have you tried not breaking the law to see if that helps?”

A manager of the bar told WBTV that the former employee posted it online to retaliate against the bar for his termination. The former employee apparently still had access to social media.

The bar deleted the post and has since apologized. The manager said they have changed their social media passwords to make sure it does not happen again.

The post comes in the wake of riots in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray.

Gray, 25, was taken into police custody for possessing a switchblade and, while being transported, fell into a coma and was taken to a trauma center with spinal cord and larynx injuries. He later died.
