CLEMMONS, N.C. — A Charlotte business wants to build a solar farm southeast of Clemmons.

Fire Solar I plans to place 20,000 solar panels on 27 acres it will lease at 5551 Phelps Farm Road. The electricity generated from the farm — enough to power 600 homes a year — will be sold to Duke Energy Carolinas, said Brian Adams, the CEO of Fire Solar I.

The company has six other projects similar in size to the proposed solar farm in Clemmons, Adams said.

“This will be our first in the Clemmons area, and we look forward to the opportunity,” he said.
