Rockingham school board OKs $113 million budget, but jobs are still up in the air

EDEN, N.C. ­— Rockingham County Schools have avoided laying off employees for years.

And on Monday night, a standing-room only crowd of teachers and parents came bracing for the worst.

But it didn’t come. At least not yet.It still might.

Faced with a $4.1 million deficit, the Rockingham County Board of Education voted 9-2 to approve a $113.3 million budget for 2015-16.
