YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. – Portions of I-77 near Jonesville were closed due to a tractor trailer hauling lettuce and salad dressing overturning in the median and spilling its contents.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident near mile marker 80 around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Sgt. P. M. Dixon said that the median of I-77 looked like a “giant tossed salad.”

The driver of the tractor trailer told authorities that someone had cut him off and he swerved into the median to avoid them.

No injuries were reported.

Portions of I-77 had been closed all morning Saturday while crews attempted to clear the scene.

Sgt. Dixon said that NCDOT had to use “unconventional means” to clean up all the spilled lettuce and salad dressing.

All lanes of I-77 were re-opened shortly after lunchtime on Saturday.
