RALEIGH, N.C. – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of North Carolina and southwest Virginia until late evening Sunday.

NWS predicts 1-3 inches of rain for this area, with the heaviest rainfall in the afternoon.

Runoff from the heavy rain on already saturate ground could result in flooding in low lying areas, warns NWS

For the Triad, NWS predicts that scattered thunderstorms could develop ahead of a cold front that is tracking east across the region.

NWS warns that these isolated storms could be severe, with damaging winds and hail.
