SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — An 87-year-old woman died in a wreck Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened at 5:06 p.m. at the intersection of Franklin Road and Forest Drive in Mount Airy.

Two cars were involved in the wreck and six people were taken to Northern Hospital in Surry County.

Lockie Dorilla Smith, 87, of Haystack Road in Mount Airy, was killed.

Smith was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital after being transferred there from Northern Hospital.

The other five patients are all in stable condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
