Police investigating homicide in High Point; victim identified

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed shortly after noon on Thursday.

At 12:23 p.m., police received a call indicating the victim of a gunshot wound was being transported by the caller to High Point Regional Hospital.

Officers learned the shooting took place somewhere near the intersection of Hoskins Street and Washington Street.

The victim, identified as Calvin James Alexander, was struck by what police called a “small projectile” while riding in a vehicle.

Alexander, 20, of High Point, was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital.

Officers were told the suspect was a black male, approximately 18 years old, wearing a black hat, coat and camouflage pants. The suspect was last seen running west on Washington Street.
