WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 4-year-old girl was in critical condition late Monday after she was hit by a vehicle in the 4100 block of Morningside Drive, Winston-Salem police said.

A 1995 Oldsmobile driven by Derrick Thorne Daniels, 26, of Glenn Avenue in Winston-Salem was traveling west on Morningside Drive about 7 p.m. Monday when the girl rode a small toy from her driveway into the street. She was struck by the car driven by Daniels, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The girl was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors, police said.
