PENDER COUNTY, N.C. — A man in Pender County is in jail after a strange series of events that happened last Thursday.

Deputies responded to Sloop Point Road after receiving a report that a man was yelling at kids as they got off the bus.

According to deputies, Horace Ray Medlin, 58, walked down the road to Hilltop Grocery Store where the store owner refused to let him enter the building.

The manager told deputies Medlin had come into the store intoxicated the day before.

When the deputy tried to arrest Medlin, he punched a deputy and spit on him, according to WECT.

While en route to the Pender County Jail, the deputy said Medlin continued spitting on him.

Medlin also damaged a printer and a camera worth approximately $200 when he arrived at the jail.

He was charged with assault on a government official, second-degree trespassing and injury to real property. Medlin is being held in the Pender County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
