Death of woman found in abandoned Greensboro home classified as homicide

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The death of a woman whose body was found in an abandoned home on East Whittington Street has been classified as a homicide.

Sonya Annette Buckner, 45, was found by police in an empty room in 405 E. Whittington St. at approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 7 after GM 911 received a call about a possible deceased person in the home.

Preliminary findings from officials at the State Medical Examiners’ Office reveal that Buckner, who has no known address, died from significant blood loss caused by a laceration to her body.

No one has been arrested in connection with her homicide. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
