ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -- Alamance-Burlington schools are closed Wednesday after originally planning to go in on a delay.

Todd Thorpe, assistant superintendent of the Alamance-Burlington School System, said they want to take every precaution to make sure students are safe.

Officials hit the roads around 9 p.m. Tuesday to look for potential issues. Thorpe said when they went back out this morning, a lot of those problem spots hadn't cleared up.

Secondary roads in the southern part of Alamance County are still covered by large patches of black ice and snow.

Thorpe said school system officials will meet Thursday to finalize make-up days.
