Guilford County, N.C. — A single-vehicle crash Friday morning closed one lane of Interstate 40 westbound right after the Business 40 split.

Both lanes have since reopened. The crash happened at about 4 a.m.

Instead of following the curve at the I-40W/Bus-40 split, the driver appears to have gone straight, crashing into some trees, Highway Patrol officials said.

The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was unresponsive when taken to the hospital. He was the only person in the car.

Highway Patrol officials said alcohol may be  factor.
