Police investigate death of 93-year-old woman assaulted at assisted living home

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are investigating the death of a 93-year-old woman after she was assaulted at an assisted living home in Winston-Salem.

On Feb. 7, Opal Galloway, was assaulted by another resident at Salem Terrace Assisted Living, located at 2609 Old Salisbury Road, according to police.

She was transported to receive medical care, but later died.

Authorities are working to determine if the injuries she received from the assault caused or contributed to her death.

The 70-year-old male resident who reportedly assaulted Galloway is no longer living at the facility. Authorities are trying to determine the mental capacity of the male resident.
