Winston-Salem police officer assaulted during drug investigation

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem police officer was assaulted while conducting a drug investigation Wednesday.

Officers B.A. Ferguson and S.E. Diamont approached a Toyota Camry on the 1000 block of East 15th Street around 9:30 p.m.

The vehicle struck Officer Ferguson and the driver began to flee the area.

Both officers fired shots at the vehicle.

Officer Ferguson was later treated for a minor injury and released from the hospital.

Later, the vehicle was found at the dead end of Barbara Jane Avenue.

Evidence found inside the vehicle suggested that the driver was injured, according to police. The driver however, was not located.

The investigation is ongoing.
